Celebrity Cruises have announced that their second Edge Class next-generation ship will be named and sail from Southampton in her first season.
The news was announced as press got to see the first look onboard Celebrity's newest ship, and the leader of the Edge class, Celebrity Edge. It was also announced that the specifics of the itineraries for the ship will be announced during Celebrity Edge's inaugural parties in Florida; which should take place on November 29th.

It is the the first time since Celebrity Cruises has brought a brand new ship to the UK since the arrival of Celebrity Eclipse, when she got named here, back in 2010. In another first for the company, it will also be the first time that Celebrity Cruises has operated two ships simultaneously out of the UK, with Celebrity Silhouette returning once again for, what will be, her third year running out of the port.
We believe that this has come due to the news of P&O Cruises' newest ship, Iona, which is due to embark on it's maiden voyage out of Southampton around the same time as Celebrity Apex - a move which has also believed to spark Royal Caribbean to redeploy Anthem Of The Seas and Independence Of The Seas through Southampton - a move which will mean the company's biggest ever deployment to the city.
