Marella Explorer 2: What To Expect!

Marella Cruises' second new ship in two years is currently undergoing a refurbishment in Cadiz, Spain in order to make it ready to take on guests from the British market. She will be the first adults only ship (17+) for Marella Cruises and will be very similar to her sister ship Marella Explorer, which launched under a year ago in May 2018. In this post I will be going through the things we can expect from Marella Explorer 2 when she launches at the beginning of April 2019.

As previously stated, Explorer 2 is the sister ship to Explorer (who is both slightly younger and larger than Explorer 2), they both started out in life in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, and since then have stayed in the wider Royal Caribbean family. Explorer left Celebrity to join TUI Cruises as Mein Schiff 1 and Explorer 2 became SkySea Golden Era - the only ship in the 'SkySea' brand which was a Chinese cruise company owned by Royal Caribbean and Ctrip group. SkySea Golden Era took her last voyage in August 2018.

This was not always planned to be the case, as I found out when talking to the Captain of the Explorer back in May 2018, Mein Schiff 2 (the third vessel in this class of ship) was due to be going the Marella fleet from sister company TUI Cruises, however, an increase in popularity for smaller ships in the German cruise market lead to TUI's decision to keep and maintain Mein Schiff 2 - which has since been named Mean Schiff Herz (due to the arrival of the new Mein Schiff 2).

We know that, as the rest of the Marella fleet from this year onwards, she will be all inclusive as standard - with quite a great selection of food and drink included in the all inclusive package. Of course you can upgrade to the premium all inclusive drinks package which includes even more drinks, however we would only recommend doing this if you know you will use the drinks that are included in the premium all inclusive package.

Explorer 2 will be home-porting at a new home port for Marella Cruises - Naples, Italy. From here she will be stopping at a variety of different ports around the Mediterranean and will include four brand new itineraries.

Explorer 2 will look almost identical to her sister Marella Explorer.

Customers which have travelled on the company's current newest vessel, Explorer, will be familiar with the majority of thing's which are being added to Explorer 2. Favourites such as Snack Shack and Surf & Turf will be just some of the places customers will find familiar. This being said, she is not a complete copy of her sister ship, Marella have announced that he will have features which will appear to her adults only market such as an increase of size on the Veranda.

Marella is going to be adding a lot of new restaurants, bars and snack areas to the ship, and one of these is "The Beach Cove". It's yet another new venue which will be debuting on Explorer 2, it is a beach/barbecue themed bar / snack area which is situated on the pool deck. Two other new venues are "Flutes" (Champagne and Wine Bar) & "The 19th Hole" which will feature golf buggy style seating and two of its own golf simulators.

As more new details of Marella Explorer 2 are rebased we will be sure to bring them to you, as well as dry dock updates for her remaining month in dry dock.
