Six Ships To Leave Carnival Corporation Fleet

Carnival Corporation have announced that six ships will be leaving their fleets over the coming weeks, due to the increasing impact that Coronavirus is having on their operations.

Carnival Fascination Is One Of The Oldest Ships In Carnivals Fleet

During an earnings call, Carnival Corporation has announced that they have secured deals to relieve six of their cruise ships, from across all of the Carnival brands, from service within the next 90 days.

It has not yet been announced which ships will be leaving the fleet, however it is important to remember that these six ships are across the whole corporation, not just the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. This means that the ships could be from Costa, P&O or Aida to name a few.

It goes without saying that some of the most obvious candidates for an early retirement would be the older ships within the fleets. Older ships typically carry less passengers and are also less economical to operate. Newer and larger ships have a lower cost per passenger to operate, and will also be better to operate in a world where social distancing will need to be around for a while longer.

Without a firm announcement from Carnival or its brands, it is impossible to know for definite which ships will be leaving the fleet - however this has not stopped the rumour mill from turning. Some of the most popular contenders appear to be the Fantasy class, operated by CCL. This ship class features eight ships and is the largest class of ship operated by Carnival. The ships, however, are the oldest and smallest in the fleet and this might not appeal to Carnival in the post pandemic world.

It is also reported that Costa Victoria has left the Costa Cruises fleet in the last few days, after Carnival struck a deal with a shipyard in France for the ship to be used as floating accommodation for workers working on dry dock projects.
