Cruising In 2019 From Southampton!

There has been a lot of news recently regarding the upcoming new ships from companies such as P&O and Cunard which are set to be based out of the Port Of Southampton, UK. I thought that I would take a minute to have a look at all of the changes we can see to ships coming in and out of the city over the coming years. In this blogpost I will talk about 2019, but there are more to come.

I'm going to look particularly at the ships which are going to be visiting more than once - not just one off visits.

So what will we see in the year of 2019?

This will be a year of relatively small changes as for the ships coming into the port regularly. Royal Caribbean will still sail Independence Of The Seas, but will change its smaller ship from Navigator to Explorer Of The Seas. These ships are sisters and will therefore boast many of the same features.

P&O Cruises will still offer the same ships at the beginning of the year but will later (August) be saying Goodbye to Oriana - the longest serving member of their fleet. You can read the blog post about this here.

Marella Cruises (previously Thomson Cruises) will be repositioning the current newest member of the fleet, Marella Explorer, to be home porting between Newcastle and Southampton. This will be an almost direct swap with the ex Royal Caribbean ship - Marella Discovery.

Princess Cruises will be offering relatively the same as they currently are offering in 2018. Sapphire Princess and Crown Princess are currently due to be offering sailings from the city.

MSC Cruises will name their newest ship in Southampton in 2019, the Bellissima. Along with this it will also be indreasing the capacity of passengers that they can take out of the city by replacing the MSC Magnifica with the MSC Prezioza.
